Mother of the year, she is not… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Welcome to Snippet Sunday! This is a snippet from End of the Road, a WIP ghost story/rock star/mystery romance.

About this snippet: Chapter One (Don't Fear) The Reaper Snippet 3  Last week snippet is here.

Cecilia has been trying to reach her mother. She heads over to her mother's house to check on her.

This story is a WIP. The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

She reached for the light switch and instantly chased the shadows away. "Mom?" she called and her voice echoed off the walls, making the house feel empty and lonely as usual.

She placed her purse and keys on the Mahogany table at the entrance and headed toward the stairs, her boots clicking on the black and white tiled floor as she went. At the foot of the long winding staircase, where she could see the dark landing at the top from where she stood, but she changed directions when she realized where her mother would be. As she neared the study that stood at the end of hall, and right across from the kitchen, she recognized the low and raspy voice belting out the lyrics to the edgy rock and roll ballad.

The door stood ajar, which surprised her since her mother kept the study, a shrine to her father, locked at all times whether she was inside or not. Cecilia usually had to pound on the door to rouse her mother from a drunken state to answer it. Her gaze shifted and she found the reason for the change of habit this year; the doorknob was broken, and the weapon of choice a hammer, which lay on the floor imitating a door jam. Her mother must have lost the key and had to improvise.

Cecilia entered as far as the threshold and spotted her mother slouched on the leather couch wearing a pink nightie that barely covered her to make it decent attire and her golden blonde hair appeared unwashed in its disarray of a half-hazard bun of sorts.

Unofficial Blurb for End of the Road

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar's rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. So well written! The details tucked into the writing are so unobtrusive, and the intrigue, oh my! Great blurb.

Merry Christmas, Karen, and I hope 2017 is a stellar year for you and yours! 🙂
