"Why in the hell would I do that?" he sputtered in disbelief.

"That's how it happened," she told him. The authorities may have deemed his death an accident, but his intentions still remained shrouded in doubt. "You and Mom threw a Christmas party here. You two fought and then you stormed out of the house."

"And you're telling me I drove my truck off the pier?" he asked. "No way. Not me. I wouldn't check out like that. I had you to consider."

Blurb:

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and has been trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it was murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened to him in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lars' rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. I like his response with the hint of responsibility he felt. Yet, the question is, though, what did happen. Great snippet!

  2. I’m sure she is surprised (and delighted) by his concern about her. That he wouldn’t kill himself because he had her to consider. A twist–one she needs to follow.

  3. Interesting development. I’m asking myself whether he’s a reliable narrator (which poses one kind of mystery) or a murder victim (obviously a different kind of mystery).

  4. How heartbreaking either way. He said he had her to consider, which means he didn’t kill himself. Nice twist and I can’t wait to learn the result.
