Voices in My Head… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Recap from last week's snippet: Cecilia returns to the study after making a cup of tea to read her father's journal and finds the book open to a page where her father had written an eerie message. She's spooked at first since she doesn't remember leaving the journal open, but the only other person in the house is her mother and her mother is asleep upstairs. She finally brushes the unease aside and sits down to read the journal from the beginning.

***The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

Twenty minutes later she happened upon an entry that made her blush, an entry about her mother, private thoughts that were never meant for her to read. The tabloids had it right; Lars at one time did have the extreme hots for Phoebe Keddie. Too bad their personalities clashed. As much as their love affair proved a favorite pastime for the fans, their fights in public were legendary and sold more newspaper and magazine copies. If two people shouldn't have hooked up, it was these two, but then she wouldn't be sitting here contemplating the lists of reasons why her parents shouldn't have married.

"Despite your love/hate relationship," she said out loud, "you did have something in common: Your ferocious passion for music."

"We had you, too."

"Yeah, but—" She halted her words in mid-sentence as she realized she actually heard a man's voice. She whirled around expecting to find an intruder standing behind her, but of course, no one stood there and yet she couldn't tear her gaze away for one long moment.

Unofficial Blurb for End of the Road

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar's rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. Oooohhh…intriguing. I expected her to see someone too. Way to go, that means you drew me into the story. Well done!

  2. I think anyone would already be freaked out, reading about their dad having the hots for mom- but the mysterious voice really doesn’t help!

  3. Some fires burn bright, and then burn out–leaving everyone scorched. But that doesn’t mean the relationship didn’t have some worth in it.
A mysterious voice… the mystery deepens!

  4. This is great … not only that she hears “the voice”, but the reply. A few words that mean so much. Absolutely love this story!
