Hookups and Has-beens… Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new 'rock star romance' that I'm working on. It's in the very early stages.

Last week Maverick wonders if he met Rowan before working at Heart and Soul. (Skipped a few lines)

Maverick's POV.

***

"Do I know you from when I played in the band?" For a moment, he had a horrible thought he'd taken her out when his morals were a bit lax, a time when hooking up was all a part of the night's festivities.

Before Rowan could voice an answer, Katie waltzed in. "Good morning, you two," she announced and headed to the kitchen to most likely grab a cup of coffee.

"So, you were in a band?" Rowan asked and he looked at her. "Which one?" she added.

"The day has finally come," Katie said as she joined them at the bar, obviously overhearing Rowan's statement.

"What do you mean?" Rowan's skin between her eyebrows puckered ever so slightly and he had the urge to kiss the lines away.

"I've become a has-been," he murmured and didn't particularly like the thought of it.

Love to hear your feed back. 🙂

About Heart and Soul...

80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn't be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

  1. Great conversation, but i love this one “morals were a bit lax” … says all and nothing. Excellent snippet

  2. I’m with Iris regarding ‘Morals were lax”. Sad to read that he considers himself to be a has-been. There’s more to him than meets the eye. I say ‘wake up. Make things happen!’ Beautiful snippet., Karen, speaks words for the world of performers.

  3. Oh I love the twist this snippet takes, with the whole ‘has-been’ comment! Really a well done excerpt…your writing is always so smooth, which I’ve said before many a time 🙂 !

  4. Loved the “has-been” comment. I’m sure that blow to his ego is going to mellow as their relationship progresses. Nice snippet!

  5. One person not recognizing him doesn’t mean he’s a has-been. No one can know every single person in every band!
