You have some explain’ to do…End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia realizes her father is truly a ghost and though he appears solid, he is not. She tried to hug him but ended up walking right through him. Definitely a chilling experience in every way. Now she's questioning if any of it is real.

Now for the snippet.

"I am losing my mind," she murmured and pulled her arm away and shook her hand, then opened and closed it into a fist just to bring warmth back into her chilled fingers.

"No, that's not true. I'm here. I'm just on– I don't know– I guess another plane of existence."

"Then why can I see you?"

He shook his head, but then stopped and frowned as if he thought of something. "The journal. When you pulled it from its hiding place I felt something shift and I knew if I tried a little harder to be heard, you would hear me this time."

She glanced at the journal as she asked, "Earlier, did you knock the journal off the desk?" She met his gaze now and added, "And if you did, how are you able to touch the journal but you can't touch me?"

Love to hear your feed back. 🙂

I just finished End of the Road! Now the final read through and edits, then its off to my editor for her review.

Blurb:

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and has been trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it was murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened to him in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lars' rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. Woohoo! Its finished!

I can hardly wait to read the next lines after this snippet. I like her. Cecelia is looking for the tangible, the logical. I can so relate. 🙂

  2. Good question! (Makes me wonder if they’re alone in the room or if there’s another spirit — or if he could move it with telekinesis.)

  3. It’ll be interesting to see how much he knows about his situation and how contact with the real world works. BTW, some words are missing here: “I knew if I tried a little harder to be heard, you would HEAR ME this time.”

  4. I agree with everyone. She has good questions.

When you get to the editing, don’t forget to vary the dialogue tags! (Unless you joined them for sentence count.)

ex) She glanced at the journal. “Earlier, did you knock the journal off the desk?” She met his gaze now and added, “And if you did, how are you able to touch the journal but you can’t touch me?”
