LOOKING FOR last week's SNIPPET: Snippet #8

Now for Chapter One, #9 snippet: Los Angeles, 2007  Disappear

Evie traveled back in time to 1997 and is waiting for her brother to call and offer her the job to be Bellamy's personal assistant. She used Bellamy's hippocampus necklace as a conduit -among other things used in the magical ritual - to send her back. Only her essence has gone back in time to merge with her younger self. She realizes she's wearing an Archangel medal her grandmother had given her when she graduated from nursing school. This is in Evie's POV.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Turned out when something proved difficult in her life, like boyfriend problems or just having the courage to reach for her dreams, she thought of the archangel. When defeating personal demons, it was good to have an archangel on your side. The boyfriend was gone, but her dreams had to be put on hold since the jerk stole the money she'd been saving to go back to school to become a doctor. Big picture: her life was less complicated without the boyfriend and she was happier now, that in itself proved priceless.

She wondered where the medal was back home in 2007. She hadn't seen it in a while, actually had forgotten about it until now. She frowned, wondering what happened to the hippocampus necklace. In her jewelry box, she assumed. That's where it would have been in 1997.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Nothing like having a kick-ass Archangel on your side. 🙂

Blurb for Two Worlds Collided:

Evie Reid on a whim agrees to travel back in time to change bad boy Bellamy Lovel's path of destruction. She's smart with a college degree, but she is still fan-girl crazy for the rock band, Civilized Heathens. Evie knows despite all Bellamy's smiles and enthusiasm on the stage, he's destined to end it all on one lonely night in a hotel room unless she can change his path.

Bellamy isn't keen on having Evie as his personal assistant, hired by his band mates to watch over him, and keep him on schedule. However, there is something about the woman that sparks his interest, despite his best to ignore her. When darkness threatens to consume him, he realizes she may be the only light that will chase the shadows away.

This is a time travel tale where an obsessed fan has a chance to save her beloved rock star from ending his life. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll are a cocktail that is neither glamorous nor pretty for rock star, Bellamy Lovel, but in the dark of night when the shadows threaten to consume him, he finds the one shining light that may guide him home.

Now for Chapter One, #8 snippet: Los Angeles, 2007  Disappear

Evie traveled back in time to 1997 just moments before her brother is supposed to call and offer her the job to be Bellamy's personal assistant or rather babysitter.... This is in Evie's POV. We've jumped ahead a few paragraphs.

*****************************************************************************************************************

If she truly traveled back in time to August 3, 1997, Bryce would call her in five minutes. She strode over to the front desk. She ignored the beeping sounds of monitors, the coughing and murmurs of conversations as she stared at the phone and willed it to ring. Her hand went to the necklace around her neck, startled that it wasn't the hippocampus. She glanced at it and realized what she had on. A medal of the archangel Michael with his sword held high as he fought to send the demon back to hell. Her grandmother had given it to her as a gift when she graduated from nursing school. "This is the patron saint for doctors, Nana," she'd told her. "You know I'm a nurse." Her grandmother just smiled and patted her arm.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Did her grandmother know something?

In last week's snippet, Kelsey used magic to send Evie back to 1997. This is in Evie's POV. I jumped ahead a few paragraphs.

*****************************************************************************************************************

She blinked a few times before her surroundings came into focus. She realized she was sitting on a linoleum floor, not her patio, not in a circle of blood. She turned her head to find a wrinkled-faced woman peering down at her from a hospital bed.

Had she really time traveled?

She wore blue scrubs. She lifted the top portion of her shirt, where a name was embroidered on the left lapel, her name. She glanced at her feet and pointed and flexed them as she stared at the no-nonsense black shoes with cushion padding. She was whole and nothing seemed to be broken. However, she was beginning to believe she'd lost her ever-loving mind."What year is it?" she asked the bewildered woman.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Remember from the previous snippets, only her essence travels back in time to merge with herself in 1997. Doesn't seem like the intrusion was a smooth one. Knocked her on her butt. lol

Now for Chapter One, #6 snippet

Los Angeles, 2007

Disappear

This is in Evie's POV. In last week's snippet, Kelsey is using magic to send Evie's back in time to 1997. This is in Evie's POV. We're continuing on to the next sentence in the scene.

****************************************************************************************************************

Kelsey went on and recited something that Evie didn't understand, something old and foreign, but as she spoke the words, the air around them felt different, heavy and charged. She gripped the necklace tighter and her gaze shifted to the cardboard Bellamy lookalike. The world tilted, making her dizzy and Kelsey's voice grew farther away. Then she felt a surge of wind around her, and a light so bright she shielded her eyes. Darkness blasted her senses next, and her body felt weightless as it zoomed through a black void. Sounds blasted her from every side and she wanted to cover her ears but couldn't move. She was at the mercy of whatever force was driving her away from her friends.

Just as fast as she traveled, because she couldn't think of another word for what was happening to her, it all stopped as if someone had pressed on the brakes at top speed and she'd forgotten to wear her seatbelt. She jerked forward then back with such force she feared her neck would snap. Her breathing came in short quick breaths and managing anything deeper into her lungs hurt too much.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Could she have arrived in 1997?

Los Angeles, 2007

Disappear

This is in Evie's POV. Evie's connection to Bellamy is she'd been asked to be his assistant prior to the official date the band would go on tour, but she didn't accept the position. Kelsey wants to send her back in time to that moment for her to say she will take the job. We're jumping ahead a few paragraphs. Kelsey is speaking to Lisa in the first line.

****************************************************************************************************************

"I need you to stand on the other side of the circle and clasp my hands."

"Why?"

"It's to keep the magic contained and it's stronger when there is more than one person's energy propelling the magic."

Lisa made a big production about complying, but she reached out her hands and Kelsey clasped them. Evie stood in the center of their clasped hands like they were going to play a game of London Bridges Falling Down. The nursery rhyme seemed almost fitting, but she wouldn't be repairing a bridge, but a life, making it stronger in hopes that despair didn't weaken the mind where irrational decisions lay in wait to destroy. Evie stood nose to nose with the cardboard cutout of Lovel. It seemed creepy to be staring into those baby blue eyes and smiling face when she was about to take on a mission to save him from killing himself.

"If you zap us to oblivion, I'm going to be so mad at you," Lisa grumbled.

Kelsey ignored her and began the spell, "Send Emerson Violet Reid back before Bellamy Kendrick Lovel drew his last breath."

*****************************************************************************************************************

As the spell takes on a life of its own, we'll see if Kelsey can really send Evie back in time.

Who are the Civilized Heathens? @KMNbooks #rockband #books

Civilized Heathens is a fictional rock band in my story Two Worlds Collided.

Meet the band:

Bellamy Lovel, lead singer for Civilized Heathens

At five-foot-ten with dark curly black hair and striking blue-eyes, Bellamy Lovel was

the frontman of Civilized Heathens. He was the main vocals, guitarist, and co-wrote the

songs with Leon Green. He was a vibrant and sometimes wild man who could

light up the stage with just his presence, but then add his sultry voice to the mix

and he had the audience mesmerized.

He died tragically on Sept. 22, 1997, during the Fall Fest Tour.

Leon Green

Leon Green, blonde and blue-eyed, is vocals, plays the keyboards,

percussion, and has co-written most of the songs with Bellamy Lovel.

Maury Green, drummer form Civilized Heathens

Blonde, blue-eyed, Maury Green is the drummer and vocals.

He has a dimple on his right cheek that winks when he smiles.

T.C. Worth_Civilized Heathens

Baby-blue eyed, T.C. Worth is a red-head, but dyes his hair black for a more edgier look.

However, no amount of stage makeup could ever cover up his freckles.

He is the bass player and backup vocals.

Clark Barrymore_Civilized Heathens

Clark Barrymore, the tallest of the band stands five-foot-eleven

with dark brown hair and darker eyes.

He plays the rhythm guitar, saxophone, and is the backing vocals.

Note: Evie would only be with Bellamy for three weeks to keep him on schedule for interviews and such and wouldn't be with the band when they started the tour or on the day Bellamy ends his life.

We're jumping ahead a few paragraphs. Evie asked why she can't be sent back in time to the day Bellamy commits suicide instead? Seems like a logical question, right?

****************************************************************************************************************

No," Kelsey again interrupted and appeared alarmed. "You can't tell him he's going to commit suicide. If you do, you'll be snapped right back here so fast your head will spin. You can only shift events, not shout on a soapbox as if you're a prophet. Bellamy, in the end, will still have to make the decision without you spelling it out for him. It's all about balances in the universe." She sighed. "He may still end up dying, but on the off chance, he was leaning the other way, your subtle influences like perhaps a conversation you'll have with him will be the factor that keeps him from making that fatal decision. We're all connected in some way, Evie. We never know who might be influenced by something we said or something we've done."

*****************************************************************************************************************

Seems like a tough spot for Evie–to know what will happen and not be able to just tell him.  Love to know what you think of the book cover?

Los Angeles, 2007

Disappear

This is in Evie's POV. Kelsey explains the rules of time traveling and what her mother experienced on her trip.

****************************************************************************************************************

When she'd first met Kelsey, she told her the story about her mother being in prison, but she'd conveniently left out the part about time traveling. "Your mother traveled back in time to kill her boyfriend?" she repeated just to make sure she'd heard this correctly.

Kelsey paused to peer at her and said, "Am I speaking a different language or something? Listen, she traveled back too far in time. She should have waited for when Barney – the boyfriend – was far into his cups, but she plopped back when he had just arrived home from work. Makes it difficult to claim your life and your children's were in danger when the man bore no weapon and his blood alcohol level was zilch."

"So why didn't she just travel back to the correct time and fix her mistake?" Lisa offered.

Kelsey rolled her eyes, as if she were explaining the details of time travel to a bunch of imbeciles. "You can't travel back in time to the same year twice. It's a one time shot."
*****************************************************************************************************************

The rules to time traveling- wonder how many there are. 🙂

Los Angeles, 2007

Disappear

We're jumping ahead in the chapter to where Kelsey is preparing to send Evie back in time. Kelsey is speaking first.

****************************************************************************************************************

"Stop looking at me as if I murdered your grandmother, Evie. I picked up the blood at the butcher shop."

"Tell me again, why do we need blood?" Evie asked, really concerned that Kelsey was suffering from some kind of mental breakdown.

"Time travel requires fresh blood," she answered. "It's life, the essence of all living creatures."

"Well of course blood is needed," Lisa said and her sarcasm didn't go unnoticed, then she added, "You do know Time travel is not possible, right?"

"Tell that to my mother who's serving 10-20 behind bars.

"They arrested her for time traveling?" Lisa asked as she followed Kelsey's progress of carefully making sure the line of blood remained unbroken, adding more blood if it was.

"Don't be idiot, Lisa," Kelsey snapped. "My mother time traveled back in time to kill her no good boyfriend, at the time, before he could beat my sister half to death."

*****************************************************************************************************************

Kelsey may have proof time travel is possible. Hmm... wonder if Kelsey's mother meant to get caught?
