The Gryphon & His Thief, here's the link. Chapter Six #1

Set up for this week: Calli has left Darrien handcuffed to the bed and has made her escape. Darrien is feeling sorry for himself, but that is about to change.

This scene is in Darrien's POV.

I have skipped ahead just a wee bit.

*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. :)

***********************************************************

The little minx did not realize the danger she posed, not only from the person who hired her, but from him as well. His beastly side would sooner or later demand justice for her stealing the stone, and he feared no matter his feelings for her, it would prove not enough, and the beastie would win.

He stared at the cuff surrounding his wrist and cursed again for being caught unaware. With his other hand, his fingers slid over the cool metal. "I am even a bigger fool," he grumbled, not because of the binds that held him fast, but because the handcuffs weren't anything special. They were not fashioned out of iron, but some other mundane metal of no consequence, nothing that would hamper his strength and abilities. He may not be able to shift into the Gryphon because of the small quarters, but he could still shift into his elemental form. He let the elements slide over him and transform his body to ether.

************************************************************

Darrien is free at last. Oh Calli, you better run. lol

Until next week, take care.

A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.

Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate's Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.

As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

Adryanna meets the Blue-Eyed Devil in Twilight’s Eternal Embrace @KMNbooks @pnlveromancewed

paranormal love wednesdays 2-1This is a snippet from my paranormal/vampire/historical tale, Twilight's Eternal Embrace.

If you missed last week's snippet, here's the link:

Chapter 1 #1

This scene: Two from the Oiche Sith Clan (vampires) came across Adryanna (human) in their territory. They could kill her easily, but she will not go without a fight. Only another as joined them. Now for the snippet...

***********************************************************************

"Halt," he warned the two. The one word was a command no one could refute without consequences.

Adryanna's gaze slid over the newcomer with interest. His hair gleamed dark as night. He was long and slender, indicating he had not made the transition yet either, but she sensed his time was near. He was sure of himself and he wielded a broadsword. He was already in training to take his place as one of the warriors.

His eyes shifted to her and she swallowed the lump in her throat. Never had she seen such blue eyes. Even in the moonlight, they stood out. They were like the deepest blue of a morning sky, welcoming in their warmth. She shook her head in confusion. What nonsense. To her, he was nothing but a bloodsucker.

"Have you come to join us?" She lifted her chin. "I was just going to show your friends the sting of my dagger. Mayhap you would like me to carve a tattoo on your forearm?"

His dark brows winged up and his full lips curved into a smile. "Perhaps later." He narrowed his eyes on the other two. "Begone, Fergal and Niven. Your fun is over this night."

The two youths grumbled, but they did not question the Blue-eyed Devil, who'd ordered them to leave.

Once they were alone, Adryanna wasn't sure if one threat was better than the other, but at least she'd have more of a chance with one Oiche Sith than with two.

"I mean you no harm," the Blue-eyed Devil said, his voice soothing in its claim, but her heart hammered, warning her he was a danger to her. Only she wasn't sure why. His stance spoke of no threat.

He had a wildly handsome face and the moonlight accented captivating shadows beneath his eyes. Her gaze fastened on his mouth and for a heartbeat of time, she imagined how those masculine lips would feel pressed against hers. With a sensuous mouth like that, his kisses would surely make a woman forget herself.

She met his steady gaze. The blood rushed to her head and she felt her cheeks flame hot. What was she doing? Then she knew. It was the Blue-eyed Devil's fault. "Stop it." She raised her dagger and jabbed it at him. "Do not come closer. I will not have you glamour me."

He lifted his hands in mock surrender. "I have done no such thing." His brows furrowed with concern. "What makes you believe such magic was done to you?"

He spoke the truth. Worry shadowed his eyes. Then she understood. It was not magic, but her body responding to him in a way she had not thought possible. She found him desirable. "No." She stumbled back to get away from him and almost fell, but he was quick, lightning quick as he came to her rescue. She thought meeting his gaze was unsettling, but his touch proved more wicked than casual glances. His hands came to rest on her waist, his touch burning through her shirt with raw heat. Don't look at him. Don't meet his eyes.

Damn her curiosity. Her eyes opened and she met his gaze. His eyes smoldered with desire, mirroring her own. He pulled her closer. There was no mistaking the hungry sensual growl in the back of his throat as he pressed his lips to hers. He didn't ravage, but took his time, savoring, tasting…seducing. She groaned beneath his tender assault before her brain registered what she was doing. Fear mixed with passion made her heart thump wildly.

Adryanna pushed at his chest, but he held her tight. She had to stop this before it was too late, before she no longer cared her enemy kissed her. Her dagger hand sliced through his shirtsleeve, hitting flesh. He let her go with a startled curse, but it was all she needed. She fled, her feet moving with sure strides as she made her way into the forest. She knew he could follow her, make her pay for drawing his blood, but he didn't pursue her.

Her feet didn't stop until she reached the safety of her village. Coomkeen lay calm and peaceful as the people slept. "What you should be doing also instead of kissing a bloodsucker." Her fingers lightly touched her lips, still tender from the Blue-eyed Devil's caress. She hated him for what he was, but her body didn't seem to care. With a touch of his lips, he awakened the woman in her. She didn't scare easily, but this frightened her. He had not used glamour, and yet, he still held a power to make her knees weak.

She turned, glancing toward the dark forest. The hairs on her arms stood up and she felt a tingle down her back. Had the Blue-eyed Devil followed her after all? The leaves rustled in the wind, but no one emerged from the shadows.

*********************************************************************

That's all for now. Do you think the Blue-eyed Devil followed Adryanna?

Set up for this week: Calli has left Darrien handcuffed to the bed, and has taken the stone. Darrien is kicking himself for being so stupid...

This scene is in Darrien's POV as she rehashes the last hour spent with Darrien, and what her next move will be.

I have skipped ahead a few paragraphs from last week.

*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. :)

***********************************************************

Darrien shouted in frustration as he yanked on the handcuffs, but they held fast. He couldn't shift in such a small space without causing considerable damage to himself and the structure. He could ill afford either.

Wasn't he a halfwit? he voiced and chortled in disgust at his own stupidity. He should have been suspicious from the start when her actions proved amorous. Calli may be Callista reincarnated, but she in no way was the same woman he'd fallen in love with centuries before in Andros. Her soul had adjusted to this century and her upbringing had shaped her. Damn the stars above if he wasn't attracted to her anyway.

************************************************************

Darrien has more to worry about than how he feels about Calli. lol Just how will Darrien escape if he cannot shift?

Until next week, take care.

Paranormal Love Wednesdays @KMNbooks @pnlveromancewed

paranormal love wednesdays 2-1This is a snippet from my paranormal/vampire/historical tale, Twilight's Eternal Embrace. This scene opens with Adryanna hidden among the trees to view the her sister's wedding to a Oiche Sith, a vampire. The ritual does not bode well for the human, but their clans have an agreement. Now for the snippet...

***********************************************************************

As the cart moved closer, Adryanna had a better view of her sister. Fianait held her chin high. She did not fear the duty. It was a great honor and her family would be handsomely rewarded for their sacrifice. The elders of the Oiche Sith already presented them with a palfrey and supplies they could not purchase on their own, like tea and spices. They brought bolts of fabric to her mother, enough to make winter garments for the whole clan. If Fianait survived the night, the Oiche Sith would honor her, but very few ever survived. None survived after a month's time of the brutes feeding off them.

Adryanna gripped the dagger in her hand as visions of slitting one of the Oiche Sith's throat entered her mind. She'd like to see them bleed out for a change. She shifted her gaze to the Oiche Sith, who would take Fianait to his bed. He stood on the bottom step that led into the castle. His hair was long and the color of autumn leaves. He looked pale and unsure on his feet. He had yet to fill out, looking more boy than man when compared to the warriors of his clan. He was still larger and taller by far than her people. She knew come tomorrow he would be inches taller with a broad chest and thick legs. This was the way of the Oiche Sith and how they developed into manhood.

When the cart stopped at the foot of the steps, the Oiche Sith approached Fianait. He offered his hand to her and helped her down. He held her at arms' length as his gaze swept over her in appreciation. He pulled her closer, pressing his lips to her right cheek then the left, the sign of his approval and acceptance. The crowd of onlookers cheered in response. Really, would the Oiche Sith turn an offering away even if the lass was a hideous beast? She thought not. They needed their blood, their females since they could not breed.

The Lathe Sith needed the Oiche Sith's alliance to keep the borders secure against the other blood drinking clans that were stronger and more powerful than her clan. A tear slid down Adryanna's face and she angrily brushed the offensive dampness away. She promised Fianait she would not cry for her, but how could she not mourn her sister…her friend? She would never see her sweet smile again.

"Damn the bloodsuckers." Adryanna had witnessed enough and whirled away with plans to head home to grieve. She came up short when she stood face to face with two youths of the Oiche Sith clan. They were not broad shouldered so they had not gone through the change, but they were close to her age she was sure—perhaps nine and ten, not much older. They bared their fangs with a gleam in their eyes. Splendid, her parents would lose two daughters this night. One in honor and one in disgrace. Well, she would not die easily. She gripped her dagger, revealing the threat. The young men blanched as they caught sight of her weapon, but then they laughed. They thought her weak, a female and a Lathe Sith at that, but she knew how to fight and she'd make them bleed before they killed her.

"Do you think your puny dagger will harm us?" the taller of the two barked.

"Venture closer and we will find out," she taunted with more courage than she felt.

*********************************************************************

That's all for now. Do you think Adryanna can hold her own?

'Cause you've questioned Professor Leander's motives for wanting the stone a million times before you committed to stealing it for her, and 'cause you always were suspicious of her, and Darrien reminded you of the fact.

She'd run a background check on Professor Leander—twice. She couldn't find any incriminating evidence.  No, just the annoying niggling at the back of her mind, and now Darrien made her doubt her choices all over again.

Her hand wavered to her lips still tingling from Darrien's kiss. Good Lord, the man kissed as if he thirsted for her caress, and he wasn't selfish. He gave too. Boy, had he given, she thought then murmured, "Too bad he longs for another woman."

************************************************************

Darrien must know the secrets of a great kiss... Not only does his words make her rethink what she must do with the stone, but his caress has her distracted, too. lol

The Gryphon & His Thief, here's the link. Chapter 5 #2

Set up for this week: We're back to The Gryphon and His Thief.  Skipping ahead again. Last week Darrien asked if Calli was going to shoot him when she revealed she had a gun. She tells him, no—as long as he doesn't try to follow her once she leaves.

This scene takes place right outside the motel room. She's having second thoughts of leaving Darrien handcuffed...

*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. :)

***********************************************************

"No, don't go all soft now," she murmured. Her gaze landed on the bushes to the side of her, and she crouched down. Her hand brushed aside the dirt at the base of the plant, revealing the pouch she'd stashed at the last moment when she'd arrived at the motel. Her instincts had proven right on. She'd known the chase wasn't over when she left the museum. Hiding the stone was a must, so she'd faked dropping her keycard to hide it without being obvious. If Darrien had the stone in his possession, he would have been long gone by now.

She lifted the pouch and brushed off the dirt.

She's on the run, but probably not for long if Darrien has a say. :)

Chapter 5 #1

Set up for this week: We're back to The Gryphon and His Thief.

 Skipping ahead again.

Calli tells Darrien she'll look into Professor Leander's claims that the stone belongs to her company that has financed the archaeological dig. Darrien argues she is in danger if she keeps the stone, but Calli isn't listening anymore. Darrien is handcuffed to the bed and not going anywhere. So she's packing up to leave... or rather packing...

*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. :)

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Never you mind," she told him as she pulled the gun free from under the table. She only kept a weapon on her for emergencies and to think she almost hadn't packed it for this assignment. The semi-auto was the Ruger LCP Revolver—lightweight, large enough to fit in her palm, but powerful enough to hold its own. This baby held five rounds. The perfect weapon for tight situations, just point and shoot.

"As you can see, I can take care of myself," she said and noticed his eyes were focused on her weapon and not her.

"Are you going to shoot me?" he asked as he shifted his gaze.

***********************************************************

Do you think Calli will shoot Darrien? She couldn't be that cold, could she?

Thanks for stopping by!
