Michaela Grant travels to Scotland for a holiday, knowing this vacation is her last. A medical condition threatens her life and any chance of a future—until she meets Alan MacLachlin, a man forced to exist between two worlds.

Alan is the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Once every fifty years he returns to human form in search of his soul mate, the one woman who can break his curse. He believes he has found forever with Michaela, but to claim it he must figure out how to save her life.

Michaela and Alan vow to take what time has to offer, but another threat looms. A sinister shape shifter with a vendetta against Alan is making Loch Ness his personal hunting ground. Now he’s threatening Michaela. Alan must discover who the shifter is and stop him before it’s too late.

The scene: This takes place a few paragraphs from last week's snippet #7. The water spirits have flooded the valley and Druid Daly arrives to confront the person responsible for allowing the spirits to escape. Gordana faces Druid Daly to explain what happened at the well.

***************************************************************************************

“My son was playin’ near the fire, and I feared for his life. I...must have forgotten to replace the lid over the well. I’m so, so sorry.”

Druid Daly remained silent for so long, the clan’s murmurs stilled. Alan wondered if Druid Daly had not heard his sister’s plea for forgiveness, but then the Druid’s expression changed. A gasp from someone in the crowd made Gordana lift her head to look at the druid. She took a step back, but hands from behind her pushed her forward, preventing her from retreating.

Druid Daly’s light blue eyes blazed with fury, making them look like shards of broken glass. “Ye forgot?”

***************************************************************************************

Druid Daly does not seem pleased, does he? Like always, I would love to know your thoughts about the snippet. 🙂

  1. Nice mystery surrounding Druid and why he’s so angry. Sounds like he has a past too. Karen – I’m vacationing in Scotland in April and will be staying at a Castle Stuart, which is not far from the Lochness sighting. I’m gonna try and photograph “Nessie!”

  2. Uh oh, “forgot” doesn’t seem to be working for him as an excuse! Can’t wait to see what happens next, very intriguing story. Terrific snippet!

  3. I’m wondering why Druid Daly is so mad, it’s even his own sister who is begging for forgiveness. Seems he was thinking about it until the people pushed her forward. Does he need to make an example of her in front of them? Interesting….. Good scene. I’ll be back again next week. 🙂

    1. C.,

He was sent by the gods to take care of the problem. The problem is the valley is flooded into what is now Loch Ness. And the magic well? Where is it? Hmmm… someone is going to pay.

  4. This really makes me feel for Gordana. What mother wouldn’t be more concerned about her child’s life than anything else? Great emotion-filled snippet!

  5. There’s something so lovely about the feel of this story. The lovely language and they way you’ve done the accents. Great eight, nice and tense.

  6. Uh, whoops. Lol. I’m on her side on this one. Her son’s life is more important. Plus, I’m extremely forgetful and guess what? Yelling at me for it won’t help me remember any better. Someone needs to feed Druid Daly some chill pills, haha.

  7. I think I’ve had some bosses and teachers like Druid Daly, not too happy when someone forgets something they considered important, no matter what the reason!

  8. I’m just catching up and too late to post a comment for last week’s, but I’ve got to say the scene is SO well written, and the detail of her holding her little boy is both powerful and heartbreaking.

And this week’s … wow. I can’t count the number of times my kids have distracted me, and when she fears for her son, it’s so easy to understand. But that last line … EEP! What a hook!

  9. Yikes! Druid Daly does not sound like the kind of guy they’d want around for a party. Sorry I missed this last week. Not looking good for Gordana.
