Welcome to Snippet Sunday.

Enjoy a snippet from last week: Flowers and Fangs Chapter 4 #3

This week's snippet is another snippet from Flowers and Fangs.

Chapter 4. This is in Derek's POV.

Update from last week: Derek fought Tim, the vampire off, wounded him, and he's escaped, leaving Derek to face Sloane and decide if she's been turned or not. Marks on her neck might mean she's been bitten. Sloane has mustered some of her composure and has ordered Derek to leave her house at once. Not going to happen... If you recall from earlier snippets, Derek knew Sloane in high school, but it's been over ten years since they'd seen each other. Derek recognized Sloane from a photo, but so far Sloane hasn't made the connection...

He went with his instinct and cautiously lowered the weapon, but kept it engaged to fire. "Tim is—heck, there was no way to sugarcoat this—he's a vampire."

She laughed at him, but it was a nervous chortle brought on by fear and uncertainty. "So he claimed. I'm guessing delusional is catchy."

"You think so?" She didn't recognize him, but he wasn't sure if he should be offended or grateful. He'd been a skinny teen when he met her in high school, and they did more kissing than talking. "Your boyfriend has fangs and if I'm not mistaken, he bit you. I'm assuming this is not normal behavior for him."

Wonder what Sloane will say to defend Tim's actions. 🙂

  1. not normal? but that’s what vampires do? what did i miss?
And i agree, ouch on the fact she’s not recognising him.

  2. Ten years can change a man significantly – Derek ought to be pleased that he’s obviously grown up a lot. On the other hand, it also suggests he didn’t make much of an impact originally despite spending a lot of time kissing her.

    1. Peter,
Yes, 10 years does change a man, especially a teen to a man. I remember my son and his friends how they transformed from little boy at the end of the school year to teens with deep voices and also quite a few inches taller. I had to question who they were. lol

  3. “All the time” would be a pretty funny answer, but I’m guessing that’s not where it’s going. Living in denial doesn’t seem to be working for her, though…good snippet.

    1. Caitlin,
Not much more. Remember this has only been a matter of moments. Ask yourself the question. Would you believe your boyfriend was a vampire? Especially when you thought they didn’t exist? I’d be thinking someone was crazy and it isn’t me. lol

  4. Love their interaction, it feels real, and he’s right– there’s no way to simple sugarcoat that vampires exist. I also really like the teaser image for your Amazon giveaway! Nice!

  5. I’d say she doesn’t want to believe, but that subconsciously she’s halfway to belief. Congratulations on the Rone thingy, too. One of my SF books is in the running, too.

  6. She is in total denial. It’s like an elephant enter the room and she pretends that the china isn’t going to break. I wonder how he is going to make her see the light.
