Sloane has been infected by a Nosferatu (vampire), and will change into the fiend. Derek’s job is to ‘stake and dust’ such creatures, but he remembers Sloane from high school. He dated her for a short time, and even though it’s been ten years and Sloane doesn’t seem to remember him, he can’t shake the feelings he had for her in the past. (We’ve skipped ahead a few paragraphs… after Sloane describes her evening with her boyfriend who had infected her and how it happened.)

The three Hayes brothers arrived at the Wilkins’ home. They’ve dusted the Nosferatu (one of the more nastier vampires and the most lethal), and they’ve just found out T. Wilkins(newly made vamp) has a twin, who’s been compromised. Wade promises to let Wilkins go if he cooperates and tells them where his brother is and if his brother has turned his girlfriend. The vamp realizes he doesn’t have much of a choice…

The snippet below is in Calli’s POV. She’s awake with a horrendous headache to find the man/Gryphon in her motel room. He tells her she’s safe, but it in no means puts her at ease.
