Getting to know you….End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia is still trying to accept she's talking to her father's ghost. Their conversation is a bit awkward...

Now for the snippet.

***The story has not been edited.

"I knew you'd be a hot babe when you grew up–with my genes and your mother's–and damn, that didn't come out right at all, did it?"

She lifted an eyebrow at the sudden change of subject then realized this entity, this ghost, may be her father, but he was only a twenty-seven year old man when he'd died and it would seem his way of thinking had remained dormant. For him, life had stood still. He would be forever young and somehow that thought broke her heart, but for now she pushed the despair away. "Thanks?" she said more like a question, since she was unsure how to respond to his impromptu comment.

"Sorry, didn't mean to sound creepy. It's just...well, you're all grown up," he said and his voice choked even though he tried to cover it up by clearing his throat.

With all the times she'd imagined what she would say to her father if she had the chance, this conversation didn't even come close. She had others though. "Did you purposely drive your truck off the pier?" she blurted out and pointed as if he could see through the walls to where their private pier stood.

Blurb:

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and has been trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it was murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened to him in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lars' rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

Seeing is believing… Right? End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: The man claiming to be her father who die twenty-three years ago disappeared then reappeared again, making her believe ghosts just might be real. He told her he'd been trying to make contact with someone.

Now for the snippet...

***The story has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

"You've been dead for twenty-three years so what do you mean you've tried?" Then she realized what she said. Did she really believe she was seeing her father's spirit? Hell, she was talking to her father's spirit.

"Twenty-three years," he repeated then seemed to ponder those words as if he'd lost count of the years he'd been gone from the world of the living.

"After all this time, why can I see you?" she asked even though her mind argued this couldn't be happening. "Can Mom see you?" she threw another question at him before he could answer the first. Lars is here, her mother had stated. Only, she hadn't believed her, since she thought the alcohol and drugs were doing the talking.

He shook his head.

**********************************************************************************************************************

So what has changed that she can see him now?

Don’t scream… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: The man claiming to be her father, who died 23 years ago, just disappeared. He was standing there one moment then poof he wasn't.

Now for the snippet...

She blinked and blinked again. Had she really seen her father's spirit? "No. Not possible."

However before she could fully convince herself, a shimmering light appeared where he'd been standing seconds ago and the floor lamp dimmed and brightened. Then the Lars Lookalike was zapped right into existence once more as if he never did his disappearing act, looking vibrant and alive and definitely solid.

"Don't scream," he warned with his hands up in a calming gesture.

"I'm losing my mind," she said to herself but the Lars lookalike seemed to think she was speaking to him.

"You're not. I've been trying to make contact with someone, anyone...in what seems like forever."

**********************************************************************************************************************

Well, he's made contact now. lol

Now you see him. Now you don’t… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia laughs at the intruder's claims that he is her father. Her father has been dead for 23 years and this man could only be in his twenties. The man doesn't appear pleased at her response but before he could say more the floor lamp flickers.

Just as the room threatened to go dark, the crackle of electricity brought the light bulb back to life once more.

She stared wide-eyed at the Lars Lookalike for a full two seconds before she realized why something seemed off. She could see the lamp standing tall and bright but not to the side of him; she could see the lamp right through him as if his body mass had suddenly gone transparent. She closed her eyes then reopened them again as if doing so would clear her vision, but nothing changed.

"What's wrong?" he asked with concern.

Now, wasn't that a loaded question? "You're..." she pointed at him and swallowed the lump in her throat. "I-I can see right through you."

The Lars lookalike glanced down at himself and cursed then said, "I'm sorry," before he winked out. It was the only way she could explain what she witnessed.

**********************************************************************************************************************

I don't know about you, but that would certainly freak me out. lol

Don’t Make Me Laugh…End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: The stranger claims to be her father who died twenty-three years ago. If that's true why does he look like he hasn't aged a day?

Now for the snippet...

***The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

She laughed and it came out like she'd lost her mind, but she had a full-on nerd moment with his, 'I'm your father' crapola. She'd watched an old sci-fi movie recently where the evil guy, with a definite breathing problem, revealed he was the father to the hero of the movie. What a sick joke and in a weird way this was no different. Her father had been gone a long time and even if this guy's claims were true, which they weren't, where had he been for twenty-three years?

"You have a warped sense of humor," she said with a chuckled, but then reined in her laughter when Lars Lookalike didn't appear amused, but really what had he expected? She cleared her throat. "Listen, I'm not sure what you think you're going to gain here by pretending to be my father. Sure, you look a lot like him, but there's just one flaw. My father, if he still lived and breathed, would be fifty years old."

His expression plainly revealed his annoyance with her and he opened his mouth to say something but closed it again when the floor lamp behind him dimmed.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Can't really blame her for not believing him, can you?  lol

Could it be? End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: Cecilia finds a stranger in the house who looks a lot like her father. Only he's been dead for twenty-three years...

Now for the snippet...

He took a step toward her again, but her words made him pause. "You tripped the silent alarm when you broke in here and the police are already on their way," she threatened even though it was a complete and utter lie.

"I know this has gotta be freakin' you out," he said with his palms up as if he were surrendering to her.

"Breaking into someone's house will do that to a person."

"CeeCee, think about this for a moment. I didn't break in."

She narrowed her eyes and her heart began to race all over again.

"You know who I am," he continued.

She shook her head even though she knew what his next words were going to be.

"I'm your father."

**********************************************************************************************************************

Well that would be a shock. However, will she believe his claim?

A Lars Lookalike or not? End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: Cecilia was about to go home for the night but finds a shadowy figure waiting for her in the music room. She's ready to run from the intruder, but then the man says: "CeeCee, it's me." Her eyes narrow as she stares at the man who has taken a step closer.

Now for the snippet...

***The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Tall, lean, blond and looking so much like the photos she'd seen of her father, he could step in and be Lars Gunner. Only her father – if he were still alive – would be in his forties and wouldn't look like this man who couldn't be much older than she.

"Holy mother of – she can't see me," the Lars lookalike exclaimed in apparent frustration as he ran his fingers through his long strands, making the hair fall like waves of golden silk around his face the second he released their hold.

"I can see you," she told him but as her fear quickly evaporated and anger took hold she fired off questions one after the other without taking a breath. "How in the hell did you get in here, what do you want, and how do you know my father called me CeeCee?" Then she remembered the film and the segment she watched earlier. Dear Lord, had this guy been in the house this whole time?

"I've waited so long," he said with such enthusiasm she thought he might clap his hands together in delight. "You can really see me?" he then asked as if he couldn't believe it.

What was wrong with this guy – despite the obvious that he was a criminal who'd broken into her mother's house and was impersonating her father?

**********************************************************************************************************************

Editors-I have a question: Should I separate Cecilia's questions to Lars with a question mark for each of those questions or is it okay to separate them with a comma like I did above because she's firing them off all in one breath? Love to hear your feedback.

I’m baaack!… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: Cecilia has dismissed the voice she heard, believing she dreamed that someone had spoke to her. She enters the study...

***The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

No more reading for her tonight. She'd put the journal in a safe place for later, and then check on her mother one more time before she headed home.

She strode over to the coffee table and leaned down to retrieve the journal, but as she straightened she caught a movement near the closet door. Her eyes widen in fear at the sight of a shadowy figure standing there. Tall, dark and foreboding and thoughts of feeling safe evaporated like a summer mist and her inner voice told her to run. However, her feet hadn't picked up on the warning in the way she'd hoped. Instead, she scrambled back and hit the edge of the coffee table and she gasped at the sudden sharp pain to her calf.

"Don't be afraid," the shadowy man told her, which he had to be friggin' crazy to think she wouldn't be, but the scream tickling her throat lodged there and her voice came out in a squeak and with nothing coherent to be named. Her heartbeat pounded in her ear and she almost missed the man's next words...almost.

"CeeCee, it's me."
