What have I done? End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia is overwhelmed from meeting her father, who just so happens to be a ghost. She did what any other person might do. She fled.

In this snippet she's had time to think about her hasty retreat.

"Ghosts aren't real," Cecilia said as she stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. In the light of day, she wondered if she had imagined the whole conversation she had with her father. "Ghosts aren't real," she said again, but it lacked conviction she needed to wholeheartedly believe that statement. She'd seen her father's ghost. Had talked to him. She frowned as she remembered her parting words to him last night. "People are trying to prove ghosts are real and you tell yours to get lost." Why in the world did she tell him to go away?

Once she dressed for the day in comfortable black slacks and a blouse, she placed a call to her mother's psychiatrist, and then she rang Fritz to tell him about her mother's episode last night.

I was asked if I had a book video for End of the Road. I didn't, so I put a teaser together this weekend. 🙂 Enjoy!

Blurb:

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and his death was ruled an unfortunate accident. Despite the fact he can't recall what happened to him in his last moments of life, he is convinced he was murdered. He has been trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. She seeks help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lars' rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

Where are you going? End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia is overwhelmed by the conversation she's been having with her father who has been dead for 23 years.

**********************************************************************************************************************

"Where are you going?" her father asked in disbelief.

"Home. I don't want to see you again. If there's one thing I do know: Growing up, I survived just fine without a father. So, I most certainly don't need a ghost dad now."

"CeeCee," he called after her, but she didn't turn around. She couldn't when her mind finally clicked into flight mode. Her only thought was escape. Not because she feared her father's ghost, but because she feared herself. She couldn't let him into her life. He was dead and the dead should remain that way no matter how much you wished they were by your side.

Getting to know you….End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia is still trying to accept she's talking to her father's ghost. Their conversation is a bit awkward...

Now for the snippet.

***The story has not been edited.

"I knew you'd be a hot babe when you grew up–with my genes and your mother's–and damn, that didn't come out right at all, did it?"

She lifted an eyebrow at the sudden change of subject then realized this entity, this ghost, may be her father, but he was only a twenty-seven year old man when he'd died and it would seem his way of thinking had remained dormant. For him, life had stood still. He would be forever young and somehow that thought broke her heart, but for now she pushed the despair away. "Thanks?" she said more like a question, since she was unsure how to respond to his impromptu comment.

"Sorry, didn't mean to sound creepy. It's just...well, you're all grown up," he said and his voice choked even though he tried to cover it up by clearing his throat.

With all the times she'd imagined what she would say to her father if she had the chance, this conversation didn't even come close. She had others though. "Did you purposely drive your truck off the pier?" she blurted out and pointed as if he could see through the walls to where their private pier stood.

I’m baaack!… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Setup for this snippet: Cecilia has dismissed the voice she heard, believing she dreamed that someone had spoke to her. She enters the study...

***The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

No more reading for her tonight. She'd put the journal in a safe place for later, and then check on her mother one more time before she headed home.

She strode over to the coffee table and leaned down to retrieve the journal, but as she straightened she caught a movement near the closet door. Her eyes widen in fear at the sight of a shadowy figure standing there. Tall, dark and foreboding and thoughts of feeling safe evaporated like a summer mist and her inner voice told her to run. However, her feet hadn't picked up on the warning in the way she'd hoped. Instead, she scrambled back and hit the edge of the coffee table and she gasped at the sudden sharp pain to her calf.

"Don't be afraid," the shadowy man told her, which he had to be friggin' crazy to think she wouldn't be, but the scream tickling her throat lodged there and her voice came out in a squeak and with nothing coherent to be named. Her heartbeat pounded in her ear and she almost missed the man's next words...almost.

"CeeCee, it's me."
