Grabbing two bottles of soda pop from behind the counter, she popped the cap with opener she must have nailed to the counter. As she poured the dark fizzy liquid into to glasses filled with ice, the crackle and pop filled the air from the sudden intrusion.

So he stayed and let the flood of memories reminded him of another time: her cooking him a meal while they chatted about what adventure they’d partake in for the day. He would help prepare, too, by chopping and mincing, though he was sure Eastyn would claim he snacked more than helped. His lips curved at the memory of days gone by, but when she glanced over her shoulder at him, he quickly lowered his gaze and pretended to fiddle with the wires.
