Wasn’t he the halfwit? The Gryphon and His Thief #8sunday #snippetsunday #SPeekSunday @KMNbooks

Grunge Background.Welcome to Snippet Sunday.

If you missed the last weeks snippet from

The Gryphon & His Thief, here's the link. Chapter 5 #4

Set up for this week: Calli has left Darrien handcuffed to the bed, and has taken the stone. Darrien is kicking himself for being so stupid...

This scene is in Darrien's POV as she rehashes the last hour spent with Darrien, and what her next move will be.

I have skipped ahead a few paragraphs from last week.

*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. :)

***********************************************************

Darrien shouted in frustration as he yanked on the handcuffs, but they held fast. He couldn't shift in such a small space without causing considerable damage to himself and the structure. He could ill afford either.

Wasn't he a halfwit? he voiced and chortled in disgust at his own stupidity. He should have been suspicious from the start when her actions proved amorous. Calli may be Callista reincarnated, but she in no way was the same woman he'd fallen in love with centuries before in Andros. Her soul had adjusted to this century and her upbringing had shaped her. Damn the stars above if he wasn't attracted to her anyway.

************************************************************

Darrien has more to worry about than how he feels about Calli. lol Just how will Darrien escape if he cannot shift?

Until next week, take care.

Some Treasures are Priceless…

A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.

Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate's Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.

As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

  1. Hahaha! You’ve been played, boy.

At least he recognizes his mistake without blaming it on her. There’s hope for his wits.

  2. Loved today’s snippet … especially the last sentence. Something you can’t just switch off.

  3. Oh my, he’s gotten himself in deep. So glad he’s smart enough to recognize the change, even if it gets him in trouble. Great snippet, Karen. 😀

  4. I like his realization that she’s not identical to her former incarnation. Hopefully he’ll remember that and not get into a predicament like this again. Good snippet!

  5. I adore this snippet and the self-reflection that goes on, I know more about Darrien than before and really feel his perplexed emotions. Great snippet.

  6. Can’t wait to see how he escapes, hope he can remember his new insights next time she tries to fool him! Enjoying the story, another terrific 8.

  7. Poor guy. He didn’t expect this, did he? I’ve signed up for your blog tour, and will be reviewing the book. Can’t wait.
