LOOKING FOR last week's SNIPPET: Snippet #8

Now for Chapter One, #9 snippet: Los Angeles, 2007Β  Disappear

Evie traveled back in time to 1997 and is waiting for her brother to call and offer her the job to be Bellamy's personal assistant. She used Bellamy's hippocampus necklace as a conduit -among other things used in the magical ritual - to send her back. Only her essence has gone back in time to merge with her younger self. She realizes she's wearing an Archangel medal her grandmother had given her when she graduated from nursing school. This is in Evie's POV.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Turned out when something proved difficult in her life, like boyfriend problems or just having the courage to reach for her dreams, she thought of the archangel. When defeating personal demons, it was good to have an archangel on your side. The boyfriend was gone, but her dreams had to be put on hold since the jerk stole the money she'd been saving to go back to school to become a doctor. Big picture: her life was less complicated without the boyfriend and she was happier now, that in itself proved priceless.

She wondered where the medal was back home in 2007. She hadn't seen it in a while, actually had forgotten about it until now. She frowned, wondering what happened to the hippocampus necklace. In her jewelry box, she assumed. That's where it would have been in 1997.

Blurb for Two Worlds Collided:

Evie Reid on a whim agrees to travel back in time to change bad boy Bellamy Lovel's path of destruction. She's smart with a college degree, but she is still fan-girl crazy for the rock band, Civilized Heathens. Evie knows despite all Bellamy's smiles and enthusiasm on the stage, he's destined to end it all on one lonely night in a hotel room unless she can change his path.

Bellamy isn't keen on having Evie as his personal assistant, hired by his band mates to watch over him, and keep him on schedule. However, there is something about the woman that sparks his interest, despite his best to ignore her. When darkness threatens to consume him, he realizes she may be the only light that will chase the shadows away.

  1. I imagine the hippocampus necklace going missing, however temporarily, would be a problem?

I voted last week, Karen. I wish you tons of votes!

  2. Definitely sounds like she’s better off without that particular boyfriend. I sense the medal is about to reappear in her life. I’m very curious about this archangel.

    1. Aurora,
Her essence traveled back in time to merge with her younger self on this day in August. So she wouldn’t be wearing what she was wearing in 2007, the necklace included. πŸ™‚

    1. Christina,
Yes, it would. I sometimes can’t remember what I did with things just moments before. Especially, in regards to my reading glasses. lol It’s why I have so many pairs.

    1. Joyce,
She didn’t misplace the necklace. Remember, only her essence went back in time to merge with her younger self. The necklace wouldn’t have traveled with her, but it does exist in 1997. She’s trying to remember where she kept it in this time. πŸ™‚

  3. I’m thinking the necklaces are going to play a larger part in this than we think. At least, I hope so because my mind is going down a million avenues with this.

  4. It’s always nice to have a little something to help you through the troubles of life. And having braved a thief ex, who knows what she can tackle now?

  5. Yes, time traveling and trying to keep up with all your belongings, where they are, where they were, clothing–all of it must be headache inducing. I hope she keeps it all straight so no one will notice.

  6. Interesting situation. I’m wondering, if she’d merged with her younger self, is that younger self aware she’s there? And is her older self just there as an observer or can she act of her own volition?

    1. Great questions. We touched bases with this in earlier snippets. The younger self is in a kind of limbo. She cannot stay in the past for long. The link will weaken as time passes. A month seems to be the limit.

  7. Ah, the boyfriend who stole the money… Tough lesson to learn. She seems to have learned it though.

I;d never before thought about the challenges in traveling back in time–other than the actual travel, of course. πŸ™‚ It would be hard to remember where things were!

  8. Really love the strength she pulls from just a simple charm. Funny how a symbol or object can lend so much support and courage. Great insight to what her life had been like then, and how it links back to her present in 2007.

  9. So now her younger self might not make the same mistake she did and then her future will probably be a mess when she returns, or maybe a better place, fingers crossed.

  10. I am still worried about her going back in time to change something – the world she will be returning to (hopefully) won’t be the same. The necklace could be an unexpected twist. Very interesting premise.

  11. “The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that time travel isn’t possible.” T’Pol (who eventually changed her mind after time traveling…)

I always think of that whenever I read or write a time travel story.

This sending back her essence – cool touch. But now I wonder; have the two versions of her merged, or is the elder one in complete control of the body, or….

    So many thoughts!
