The Big Bad Outlaw…WANTED #8sunday #snippetsunday #SPeekSunday @KMNbooks

Grunge Background.Welcome to Snippet Sunday.

We're continuing from where we left off last week. If you're interested, here's the link to the first snippet from WANTED:

Chapter 3 snippet #1

Set up for this week: JoBeth (outlaw) is behind bars and has just met the sheriff's six year old daughter.  Emma innocently asked JoBeth if she's really capable of slinking through the bars because she'd really like to see that. Of course JoBeth's claim was a sarcastic response to the way she believed they all judged her. At first JoBeth is put back at how innocent the child is to believe such a thing possible, but then she hardens her heart and goes with dangerous act.

JoBeth's POV.

Her steps took her to the bars where she outstretched her hand through one of the slots. "Come here, child, and let's give it a try, shall we?" Her lips curved into a smile.

Emma only took a step before her father's hand flew out and snagged the child by the cuff of her jacket, bringing her back to safety. "You go home with Mrs. Gunthry, Emma. I'll be along later."

"Oh, Papa..." she whined, but Mrs. Gunthry took hold of the little girl's hand and ushered her out of the office, ignoring Emma's complaints. "But I don't want to go home," Emma said, "I want to chat with…"

Emma's voice trailed off until she could only make out a murmuring sound of conversation as Mrs. Gunthry hurried the child away from the big bad outlaw. Good riddance, JoBeth thought.

She doesn't need a starry-eyed child playing havoc with her emotions...or so she believes.
lol   :)Hope you enjoyed the snippet of WANTED.

Until next week, take care.

Wanted_2015_mediumAbout the Book:

Sheriff Jace Kelly's wife died birthing his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families' seer abilities. At six years old, she can't tell the difference between a vision and an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn't put much faith in Emma's recent premonition: marriage for him and a new mother for her.

When JoBeth Riley arrives, Emma is convinced she's the woman in her dream: dark hair, green eyes, and shamrocks in her pocket. There's one problem – she's the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo. Her stay in town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang, from finding her before the authorities devise a plan to capture him.

JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She's an outlaw, for heaven's sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.

  1. Interesting snippet, it seems Jobeth is not quite as tough as she wants people to believe.

  2. She’s being protective of the girl from a different direction, isn’t she? 🙂

    I like your porcupine-mannered outlaw, Karen. 🙂

    1. Linda,
Or maybe she’s being cautious. Life’s been tough for her and she doesn’t easily trust, but then she is a criminal, others aren’t going to trust her either. 🙂

  3. I’m always surprised at how determined unhappy people are to remain that way. Great snippet, Karen, and I really want to read this one. Have to wait for my allowance. 🙂

  4. OMG. Just delicious. We know the outlaw Jo will find her way into Emma’s remarkable heart. Another terrific story written by my fave, and that’s you.

  5. It’s always harder to change toward the more beautiful dream than the clear, uncomfortable present… JoBeth is showing how scared she really is, and it makes her a really awesome character.

  6. Oh that was *effective*! Not how a reader expects a woman to react…makes her all the more fascinating. Can’t wait to read more. Terrific snippet!

  7. Both of them have endearing traits, even if JoBeth is still rough around the edges. I’m sure Emma will win her over with enough patience and time.

  8. Good snippet. It’s always a good thing when a character does something that surprises the reader– while staying true to him/herself.
