I rob stagecoaches for a living, Sheriff. Does it sound like I'm mother material to you?"

He gave her a long, even look before he answered, "I believe there's more to you than meets the eye. No one is one way or the other. We're like onions with layers needing to be peeled back so we can discover the real person."

She snorted in disbelief. "No wonder your little girl has her head in the clouds." She leaned against the wall again. "You're all a little touched in the head here." Her forefinger tapped her temple for emphasis.

Somehow I don't think the sheriff will be put off by her statement. lol What do you think?:)Hope you enjoyed the snippet of WANTED.

Until next week, take care.

Wanted_2015_mediumAbout the Book:

Sheriff Jace Kelly's wife died birthing his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families' seer abilities. At six years old, she can't tell the difference between a vision and an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn't put much faith in Emma's recent premonition: marriage for him and a new mother for her.

When JoBeth Riley arrives, Emma is convinced she's the woman in her dream: dark hair, green eyes, and shamrocks in her pocket. There's one problem – she's the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo. Her stay in town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang, from finding her before the authorities devise a plan to capture him.

JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She's an outlaw, for heaven's sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.

  1. I love their conversation … I like him as a sheriff, seeing the good in people and not judging them by what bad they’ve done. Loving the story so far.

  2. Hmm… The sheriff’s comment about “No one is one way or the other” makes me wonder if there’s more to him than he is showing, too. What layers are in his onion?

    (I am definitely sleep-deprived…)

  3. I love the line comparing people to onions. No one is only, exactly one way or another, since we all have so many facets to ourselves.

  4. Love it, Karen. I mean, maybe he IS a bit touched, but a person in his position gets to see a lot of humanity at their very best and very worst at the same time. He probably has a clue about JoBeth that she wouldn’t have guessed herself.

  5. I, for one, don’t consider robbing stagecoaches and parenting to be mutually exclusive. These two characters are going to have an interesting relationship…

  6. She’s trying too hard to keep him at a distance and to be this rough, tough robber-chick…which makes for fun reading for us! Can’t wait for more…

  7. Love, love, LOVE his answer to her! Those are some of the truest words that can be spoken. Great snippet! Love her retort, too!

  8. It’s more than just layers of an onion, it is a total mask that JoBeth is hiding behind. The sheriff is perceptive though and he knows his daughter can “see” things. Great snippet.
