Hidden treasures…End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

Last week recap: Cecilia knocked down the guitars in the walk-in closet and was putting them back in order when she realized a floorboard had come loose. She could see something hidden beneath it.

Now for the snippet.

This story is a WIP. The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

**********************************************************************************************************************

She slipped out her phone from her pocket of her jeans and used the flashlight to see what had been secreted away beneath the floorboards before she stuck her hand down there to retrieve it. Creepy crawly things could be lurking beneath there for all she knew. However, a second later all thoughts of spiders and other creatures had slipped her mind once she could identify the object as a book. Her fingers curled around the binding and snatched it from its hiding place.

She sat down crossed legged and brushed the dusty film away from the front cover before she flipped through the pages to glance at the contents, which appeared to be handwritten in blue ink. She was about to flip through it again at a slower pace when a photograph fell out from its confines and landed face down beside her knee. She reached for it and turned it over. A chubby-cheeked and all eyes toddler stared back at her and it took her a second more to realize she stared at a photograph of herself. She was probably about two years old here. Her gaze riveted to the book again.

Could this be her father's journal? What do you think?

Love to hear your feedback.

Unofficial Blurb for End of the Road

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he's convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can't recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar's rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. Exciting find and of course I’m all kinds of intrigued with what might be written in the book, tempered by the thought that sometimes reading another person’s private thoughts can be painful, so she might have some more difficult times ahead. Excellent excerpt!

    1. Aurora,
There may be more to come. This was her father’s study and her mother kept it locked so Cecilia has only been inside a few times and mostly when she was a child.

  2. You’ve piqued my interest in the contents of the book, which is certain to have personal interest for her. Since this is a WIP, I have an editorial point (hope you don’t mind). “Two-years-old” doesn’t need hyphens here because the phrase doesn’t modify a noun. On the other hand, “two-years-old girl” needs hyphens because the phrase modifies “girl”.

    1. Ed,
      So glad you’re intrigued.

As for pointing out what needs editing- Go for it! lol I don’t mind at all. It’s a WIP and I am looking for feedback. If something doesn’t make sense or if there is something that needs to be edited, of course, I want to know. Thank you. You have a keen eye. πŸ™‚

  3. I hope it’s a journal, but a songbook would be good, too. Love the descrip. of the photo.
