Free E-book Copy of “Wanted”

western e-book week

Do you love westerns? Alias Smith and Jones was my favorite Western TV Show of all time. I couldn't wait to tune in each week and find out what happened to my favorite characters. For Victory Tales Press Christmas Anthology-Stimulating, I decided to pen a western tale of my own.

My story Wanted takes place near Flagstaff, Arizona in late 1880, where outlaws were still a real threat. A real life hold-up inspired the back story for my western tale, though my story has a happier ending.

In 1881, thirty-five miles east of Flagstaff at Canyon Diablo,  five riders break from the trees and surround the stagecoach with their guns drawn and ready to use. The leader motions for two of the outlaws to go to the back of the coach. They take only two mailbags and leave the rest. They don’t bother to rob the passengers and send stagecoach on their way without hurting anyone.

Everyone is confused why the outlaws would want mailbags. The stage master soon learns that the two missing bags contained a shipment of gold and silver bound from Albuquerque Bank to a San Francisco Bank. Wells Fargo, who had been plagued by stagecoach robberies, had attempted to fool the outlaws, by packing the gold and silver in two five-gallon whiskey kegs in each mailbag. It appeared the stagecoach outlaws had an inside source at Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo demanded the help of the U.S. Army and the patrol of the 6th U.S. Calvary to find the outlaws. Two Indian scouts were enlisted to help also. They picked up the trail and found the men holed up in a log cabin near Veit Springs. The outlaws opened fired and the cavalry returned the gesture. In the end, all five outlaws lay dead. The authorities went through the outlaws’ belongings, but didn’t find the gold or silver. Word spread fast and the next day, men arrived to look for the hidden loot. The entire area was dug up, but nothing was found.

Wanted is available in A Christmas Collection Anthology–Stimulating, but for E-book week, I'm offering "Wanted" for a free download to one lucky commenter. The winner will be chosen on Sunday, March 13th. Don't forget to leave me your email so I may contact to you if you should win. Good Luck!

What Western Book or  Western TV series was your all time favorite?

Blurb for ‘Wanted’: (Western/light Paranormal)

Sheriff Jace Kelly’s wife died giving birth to his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families’ seer abilities, but being only six-years old, she has the tendency not to know the difference between a vision and just an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn’t put too much faith in Emma’s recent premonition: marriage for him and a new mother for her, all because she wished upon a Christmas star.

When JoBeth Riley arrives in town, Emma is convinced this is the woman she dreamed about: dark hair, green eyes and shamrocks in her pocket. Only there’s one problem, she’s the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo.

JoBeth’s stay in the lumber town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang from finding her and breaking her out of jail before the authorities have time to devise a plan to capture him.

JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She’s an outlaw for heaven’s sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.

  1. Hi Karen!
I loved the story about that missing gold and silver, love the mystery that surrounds it. Brings a lot of ‘what if’ questions to mind (g)
And love the sound of your western/paranormal too =))

  4. Ahhhh…Bonanza was my first Western love! I had a five-year old crush on Adam! (no, really, I was 5 and crushing on the guy in black..go figure.)
I grew up reading Louis L’Amour and I have a love for the West that hasn’t completely manifested yet in my writing but probably will soon.
I don’t know if I have a favorite, I loved John Wayne and the “Cowboys” and “Lonesome Dove” is great too. But then I used to watch old Roy Rogers/Gene Autry re-runs. (I was in love with their horses then.) 🙂
Oh, and don’t forget the Lone Ranger either…oh this is too much fun!!!!

  5. Oh this book sounds great. My favorite shows were Young Riders, How The West Was Won and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. For the oldies Big Valley and Bonanza and Ponderosa.

I’ve seen all the movies and TV shows you mentioned. All Great! I loved the How the West Was Won mini series with Bruce Boxleitner and James Arnez.

I watched the whole series, beginning to end of Medicine Woman. Got love the Westerns!

Thanks for stopping in and sharing!

  7. What wonderful story! I love the western romances. I too loved the same show, and waited for every show…*S*
I told my soulmate years ago that we were destined to be together because of the history of the old west.
My mother who passed in 2009, birthday was Oct. 26th.
That is the day of the “Gunfight at the OKay Corral”. A very violent time in history.
I met my soulmate in 1975. I met him through my bestfriend Julie his sister. During our time learning about one another he told me that his great-great great uncle was Doc Virgil Holliday. Yeap, good old Doc Holliday.
Through years my husbands family has tracked it back all the way…and I tease my mate all the time that we are forever linked….*S*

    1. Hi Darcy,

I’ve been to Tombstone! What an interesting town. I was actually surprised to see the O.K. Corral wasn’t very big.
They were practically on top of each other when they all started shooting.

So your soul mate is related to Doc Holliday. Now there’s a good opening for conversation. lol

Thanks so much for stopping in. 🙂

  8. I LOVE, LOVE western stories. Growing up, my favorite was The Lone Ranger! Every Sunday morning, my dad would turn that on the TV, when there was only 4 channels to choose from (woo dating myself LOL). Today, when I happen to come across one of the episodes, I DVR it and watch it over and over. They were great episodes – he and Tonto were always coming to the rescue! Thanks for triggering the flashback to simpler times!

  9. Favorite western of course is anything with John Wayne. For me there are JW westerns and non JW westerns. Growing up I LOVED watching Laredo, I LOVED Joe, I just knew I would grow up and marry him, and then of course Big Valley and Heath Barkley. I also watched Wild Wild West and High Chaparrel. I’ve read all the Louis L’Amour books and Zane Grey. One of my all time favorite authors is Cameron Judd and the Overmountain Men trilogy. I love westerns, both books, ebooks, TV, and movies. Well I’ve always had horses and I’m now 43 so that makes sense.

  10. My daughter is the official draw the name out of the hat gal. And the winner of the E-book of the Week Celebration is….

    Terra Pennington!

Thanks so much to all of you for stopping by and reminiscing about the Westerns. It’s been a blast!
