Snippet: Rodeo Blues, Chapter Two
Meet Jolie and Whisper... (We're skipping ahead to the end of the chapter.)
Jolie has just opened up her shop, Trinkets Galore. Whisper is a psychic and good friend of Jolie's, and she wants Jolie to have some fun. Skeeter Blue's annual Cowboy's Christmas in July is starting, and all those rodeo cowboys will be gathering at Big Bob's Saloon tonight. Whisper is trying to convince Jolie to join her there. She believes Jolie might even find the man of her dreams... Whisper is speaking first.

"There's a storm brewing, Jolie Lockhart, and the man of your dreams will be riding in on it. I've seen it in the cards."
Jolie glanced heavenward with a silent prayer for patience where Whisper was concerned. "I've never sat down for a reading with you."
"No, but you're a good friend and of course, I'm going to look out for you." She sipped more of her coffee then reached for her bag to retrieve her pastry.
Jolie sighed, not bothering to explain to Whisper for the umpteenth time that there was no man of her dreams. The man she had loved with all her heart left town a long time ago. She'd moved on since then, but she'd yet to find anyone else who'd captured her heart in the way he had. Storm or not, she doubted it would bring anything more than a good downpour.

A storm's a brewin' all right, and his name is Tye Casper. 🙂 Can you take a guess how Jolie will react to seeing Tye again?

Depending on how/why he left AND if he bothered to say goodbye, I imagine she’s liable to react badly to his reappearance, but the I imagine the sparks flying will be enjoyable for all.

It would add a lot of credibility to Whisper’s character if she later reveals that she’s won the lottery several times! (Or at least a few scratch and sniffs.) 🙂
There’s a well known girl in Cajun folklore with a name similar to your MC. Just Google, “Jole Blon.” Or check her out on Youtube.

I really love that first line. It has such a classic feel to it, totally setting the reader up for wonders to come in the tale that follows. Nice work!
