She closed the door slowly so not to make a sound then looked around the room as if trying to decide what dark corner would suit her best to hide. Then, without so much as a howdy-do, she started taking off her clothes. He sat up straighter in bed. He almost wanted to pinch himself to make sure he was, indeed, awake.
Jace offers to bring JoBeth back to his home for supper. Since she’s an outlaw and he’s the sheriff, JoBeth is suspicious of his motives, but she’s obviously hungry and decides to go with him.
