Snippet Sunday: Magic of the Loch (Chapter Two #2) #SPeekSunday #8sunday #snippetsunday

Good Morning Sunday Readers!

Just found out that Magic of the Loch is a 2013 Readers' Crown Finalists! Squeee! http://www.romcon.com/index_copy.htm

It's listed under the Sci Fi/Fantasy/Time Travel category.

Sooo...what's new with you? I'm running a contest at Goodreads to win a print copy of Soul Taker. Don't forget to enter.

What are you reading this week?

I reading The Eagle by Rosemary Sutcliff. This is the first book in the The Eagle of the Ninth collection. The movie, The Eagle, was based on this book and I was so intrigued with the story I wanted to read Sutcliff's version. The novel is for YA, but I've found it fascinating so far and I'm 50% done according to my Kindle's readout. lol The author spins mystery and intrigue, while giving the readers a taste of how the people of the Anglo-Roman era lived. Her character Marcus treats his slave Esca with respect, far more than most Romans would have ever treated a slave, but what I liked is Sutcliff made her character believable by giving Marcus just a touch of arrogance to go along with that kindness.

Now for Snippet Sunday. This is another snippet from Magic of the Loch. Today's snippet is a couple of paragraphs later from last week. If you mist last weeks snipped, here's the link: Chapter 2 #1 Alan's POV.

Blurb:

Michaela Grant travels to Scotland for a holiday, knowing this vacation is her last. A medical condition threatens her life and any chance of a future—until she meets Alan MacLachlin, a man forced to exist between two worlds.

Alan is the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Once every fifty years he returns to human form in search of his soul mate, the one woman who can break his curse. He believes he has found forever with Michaela, but to claim it he must figure out how to save her life.

Michaela and Alan vow to take what time has to offer, but another threat looms. A sinister shape shifter with a vendetta against Alan is making Loch Ness his personal hunting ground. Now he’s threatening Michaela. Alan must discover who the shifter is and stop him before it’s too late.

Set up for the scene: Michaela has agreed to let Alan and Hyatt give her a tour of the loch. Alan is not pleased with Hyatt's flirting and he's not thrilled with the way he responded to meeting Michaela. Last week we found out Alan isn't immune to Michaela's charms and it scares the heck out of him. When his blood pressure finally returned to normal, a new sensation hit him—the urge to heal. His senses
tell him something has caused Michaela's body to become fragile.

Now for the snippet: (Alan's POV)

Hyatt’s bold laugh grated on his nerves, but he was hard pressed to tell him to bugger off. Once he released the boat from its tether and maneuvered it free from the dock, his gaze wavered back to Michaela as if some invisible line reeled him in. The connection wasn’t entirely his need to heal. He didn’t know her, yet his body yearned to hold her. Hell, he wanted to kiss her—taste her.

St. Bride in heaven, he swore under his breath. It had been too long since he had a woman beneath him, but it wasn’t just any woman he wanted. He yearned for Michaela Grant.

  1. Oh yes, the yearning is a powerful thing! Another terrific snippet. On your other topic, I loved The Silver Branch the most in that trilogy by Ms. Sutcliff. I have a very dog eared, much re-read copy!

  2. I’m catching up on my peeks this week. It looks like Alan has indeed met his soul mate. The poor guy is smitten and not too happy about it. 🙂 Congratulations on Magic of the Loch becoming a Readers’ Crown finalist!

  3. I love a man who’s so passionate and smitten. But he’s probably not going to finagle her away from Hyatt’s attentions easily.
