All things yummy. Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday

This is a WIP.

"Drake? she asked though his name sounded more like a croak from sick bullfrog.

His lips curved in that all too familiar lopsided grin and she mentally cursed herself for allowing his smile to affect her in a way that rendered her speechless.

"Hi, Eastyn, long time no see," he said with a shrug. The lights flickered and he glanced at the fixture overhead.

That's all he had to say to her? Well she had plenty to say to him, only she couldn't remember one lick of the speech she had rehearsed years ago for just this moment.

"Where's your father?" she finally filled the awkward silence with mundane nattering as she walked over to the counter to place the chocolate chip bag down before it slipped from her fingers that trembled for no good reason. Then she turned to face Drake, taking in his casual attire. Last time she caught a glimpse of him, he'd been on a TV morning show all decked out in leather and he wore dark eyeliner of all things. He appeared void of makeup this morning, appearing more like the boy she knew in her youth, though there were shadows beneath those mesmerizing dark-fringed eyes as if he were bone tired.

Possible Blurb:

Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn't get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.

Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake's charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn't convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

  1. I’m not sure how I’d react either although I’m guessing any prepared speeches I had would slip my memory too once the guy showed up! Really enjoyed the snippet…

  2. Oh, I know that feeling. You have all these smart comebacks and snappy lines on the tip of your tongue. Then the ba$tard shows up, your mouth goes dry and everything falls out of your mind and bounces along the floor.
    Good snippet.

  3. I love her evaluation of him, both on TV and now in person. And the boy she remembered from before. Let’s hope she gives one of them a chance. Great snippet!

  4. Unrepentant town hero returns to take up where things left off before he maybe leaves again. So easy to see this scene unfold and empathize with Eastyn.
