Twirl and Dip (WIP)
She glanced at him as if startled by the questions. "I'm fine."
"Just fine?"
Her eyes narrowed, and he prepared himself for the onslaught of tongue lashing he was sure to get. "You didn't think I'd pine away for you, did you? I moved on just like you did." She squeezed her eyes closed before looking at him again with a shake of her head. "That was rude. I'm sorry."
He studied her with longing with longing he couldn't hide. He didn't have the words to make what he did go away. He hurt her and he'd done it on purpose, making him the biggest jerk in the world. "I didn't think you would pine away for me. You're the strongest-minded woman I know, and you deserved better than my sorry arse."
Once she realized he meant what he said, her shoulders relaxed. "It seems a lifetime ago that you left," she said. "So much has happened in my life, and yet, seeing you again…"
"It conjures old memories," he finished her thought.
"Yes," she said with a sigh.
"Not all bad, I hope." And he prayed she would agree.
"No, not all bad." She gave him a whisper of a smile.

Enjoyed the snippet, glad they’re finally talking seriously, hard though it obviously is for them.
It seems like there’s still a lot of feeling between them, but if she decides to move slow, I won’t blame her.
That was fraught with tension, possible conflict, but turned out to be such a sweet scene! Nicely done! 🙂
