He’d turned off his phone last night but when he turned it on this morning texts and missed calls from his manager and bandmates kept coming in as his cell played catchup. He finally texted Malcom and told him he was okay and to tell the others he’d call them in a few days. Out of all his bandmates, Malcom asked the least questions.

Drake realized his hands held all he needed and hurried out the door and to the emergency exit he’d spotted earlier when the band did their soundcheck. Feeling like a wanted criminal, he pulled the cap down lower. He usually wore contacts, but he occasionally wore glasses as part of disguise to avoid fans. Superman had it right. No one recognized you if you changed your style and wore dark-rimmed glasses.

e changed out his sweaty clothes and into blue jeans and an AC/DC t-shirt and he donned a baseball cap and prescription glasses. He grabbed his guitar and the glass jar of sugar cones, then stood back to see if he missed anything.

He looked tired. Were those bags under his eyes going to permanent? He sat back in his seat with a heavy sigh. He wore a black tee and leather vest. His black jeans sported a worn-in look even though they were brand new, and his black combat boots finished off his rock star attire. He liked the clothes, but he longed to wear a pair of blue jeans and tennis shoes.

“I’ll be there,” he said. He used to love to go on stage and sing his heart out, but they’ve played so many venues, non-stop for the last three years that he was burnt out. He wanted a break from it all.
