Books: I finished Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. Really good, and I think fans of the series will be pleased with the ending.  I'm still reading The Invasion of Falgannon Isle by Deborah MacGillivray. It's a cute story set in Scotland. I love the humor. What is everyone else reading?

Now for Snippet Sunday. This is another snippet from Magic of the Loch. Today's snippet is continued from last week. Click here to read last weeks snippet Chapter One #5. In Chapter One Michaela meets Alan and Hyatt for the first time.

Michaela Grant travels to Scotland for a holiday, knowing this vacation is her last. A medical condition threatens her life and any chance of a future—until she meets Alan MacLachlin, a man forced to exist between two worlds.

Alan is the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Once every fifty years he returns to human form in search of his soul mate, the one woman who can break his curse. He believes he has found forever with Michaela, but to claim it he must figure out how to save her life.

Michaela and Alan vow to take what time has to offer, but another threat looms. A sinister shape shifter with a vendetta against Alan is making Loch Ness his personal hunting ground. Now he’s threatening Michaela. Alan must discover who the shifter is and stop him before it’s too late.

Set up for the snippet: Present day, Chapter One. The streets of Drumnadrochit were buzzing with the news of recent sightings of the Loch Ness Monster. Everyone wants to capture his or her own photo of the legendary creature.

Michaela was heading toward the boat tied off at the end of the pier when a German shepherd, that is chasing a cat, comes barreling toward her. Luckily for Michaela, Alan saves her from a falling into the loch. Alan and Michaela exchanged some heated words, leaving Michaela believing she doesn't care for her rescuer. Then Hyatt (Alan's brother) shows up to defuse the situation with humor, and to make the proper introductions (Sort of). She finds out a tidbit about Alan. He's an Elvis fan since he's named his bet Elvis and Priscilla. Elvis (dog) is barking at kitty teases him by parading on the ledge of the boat.

******************************************************************************************

Now for the snippet:

“Elvis stop yer racket.” Surprisingly with this one command, the dog fell silent and sat down on his haunches. Priscilla sat on the ledge preening herself, oblivious to her near death experience. “There,” he said turning to give Michaela his full attention. “They’ll behave now.”

“That’s amazing.”

He shrugged with indifference. “Ye only have to ask.”

  1. Yeah, it helps to be a legendary lake monster when you ask!

Though I have the feeling that if I were the Loch Ness monster, my kids would still ignore me. 🙂

  2. Congratulations on your cover for Soul Taker, Karen! And it makes sense Alan has control over smaller animals – he’s a magical creature after all. Great snippet. 🙂

  3. This will teach me to go away for a couple weeks. Look what I missed. Elvis and Priscilla and (last week) The Hound Dog. This was my chuckle of the day. Loved it. 🙂

  4. Elvis and Priscilla, love it! I can just see the cat lording it over poor Elvis who probably got yelled at for something she started. 😉

    Congrats on the cover contest.

    1. Lyndi,
Cats are sure great at that, aren’t they? lol Thanks for the congrats about Soul Taker cover contest. There’s still one more day and I’m not that far ahead with votes. So I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for the best. 🙂

  5. Nice animals if they do as they’re asked. I think he’s got a sway over them beyond mere politeness though.

I’m reading “A Heart on Hold” by Sara Barnard. Life keeps interrupting so I haven’t gotten far but I’m enjoying it.

  6. Dogs are more loyal and subject to obey. I wonder if Priscilla is as easily controlled. I know my cat doesn’t listen worth crap. But that’s probably why I love her. She’s independent just like me 😀 Loving these characters!

    1. Siren,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the snippet. Hyatt can sense her fear and wants to put her at ease. (In an earlier snippet) Perhaps he’s also curious why the woman, Michaela is renting her cottage from, would send Michaela to them.
